I already had plans to eat overnight oats and coffee for breakfast, so I didn’t reach into my freezer for my next taste of Daily Harvest until noon, for lunch. I opted for a smoothie since I tried a soup the night before. After sifted throughout the many flavors, I decided to try the smoothie flavor called Chocolate and Blueberry. Along with Cacao and Blueberry, it also boasted Banana, Kale, and Spinach within the list of ingredients, so I was intrigued. I followed the directions, adding the appropriate amount of almond milk to the cup and pouring it all into my Ninja blender. I ended up having to add more milk as the consistency was so thick it was giving my blender a difficult time. I must be honest, it looked disgusting – beyond disgusting.
My experience with smoothies leans heavily toward banana and strawberry primarily, so seeing my blender blending what looked to be thick mud was less than appealing. It had a lovely baby poop green/brown shade that kind of grossed me out. I had to remind myself that I thought the same thing about the soup the night before and it ended up being good – I also had an apple on standby just in case I needed a quick healthy lunch if this mixture tasted as bad as it looked.
It finished blending and I decided to pour the liquid into a tall, clear glass – just so I could get the full, gorgeous mud effect. I had to rally myself to take a sip because I really was expecting more greens flavor than anything, but, once I took a sip, holy goodness was this stuff delicious! It has more of a chocolate/banana flavor than anything. I’m still in shock at the juxtaposition of appearance to flavor. I finished the entire glass under ten minutes. I’m two for two flavor-wise on this Daily Harvest Adventure so far, and I’m curious what tomorrow’s tasting will be. I really hope I keep getting pleasantly surprised.
